Privacy Notice
Last updated October 23, 2026
This notice explains what information the Hack the Earth at AGU26 website collects, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we need to run the events and the Science Exchange Showcase.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile Google shares (name and email).
- Profile information: the display name and optional affiliation you enter. These appear publicly on your app cards and comments.
- Submissions: the app name, public link, description, and optional image you submit. These are public.
- Comments: the text you post. If the creator has made comments private, only the creator (and you) can read your comment.
- Thumbs-up votes: voting does not require an account. Your browser stores a random anonymous identifier so each browser can vote once per app. It is not linked to your name or email.
How we use it
- To let you sign in, submit apps, and give feedback.
- To display the showcase publicly and highlight submissions during AGU26 sessions.
- To prevent spam and duplicate votes.
- To contact you about your submission or the Hack the Earth events, if needed.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Browser storage
We store small items in your browser's local storage: your sign-in session and the anonymous voting identifier described above. These are strictly necessary for the site to work. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings; doing so signs you out and lets that browser vote again.
Sharing
Information is hosted with our website and database providers, who process it on our behalf. We may share aggregate, non-identifying statistics (for example, number of submissions) in AGU26 presentations.
Your choices
- You can edit your name and affiliation the next time you submit an app.
- You can ask us to remove your submissions, comments, or account at any time.
- Links you submit go to external sites that have their own privacy practices.
Retention
We keep showcase content after AGU26 as a public record of the community's work unless you ask us to remove it.
